By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Turkmenistan has enormous potential for increasing natural gas exports to world markets, including Russia, China and Iran, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during a meeting with Singapore’s business community, Trend reports citing the Turkmenistan State News Agency.

He said that one of the examples is the giant Galkynysh gas field, the reserves of which are estimated at 26 trillion cubic meters.

This has been confirmed by independent British company Gaffney, Cline & Associates. After the discovery of the Galkynysh super-giant field and a number of other major gas fields, Turkmenistan holds the fourth place among the oil and gas countries in terms of proven reserves of natural gas, the report said.

The Turkmen president said that the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, which is being implemented by a specially created consortium, is of geopolitical and geo-economic importance. The consortium includes representatives of all countries participating in this large-scale project. The construction of the pipeline with capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year and length of 1,840 kilometers began in December 2015.

“The Galkynysh field will serve as the main source of natural gas for future export pipelines,” the report said. “So far, industrial facilities with production capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year have been commissioned there.”

The meeting in Singapore was attended by the heads of several ministries, major companies and financial institutions of this country including Pacific International Lines Pte. Ltd., the Development Bank of Singapore, Indorama Corporation, DP Architects, Fortrec Chemicals and Petroleum Pte. Ltd., the Association of Banks in Singapore, PSA International, Surbana Jurong and Enterprise Singapore.
