Iran's petrochemicals production will reach 100 million tons worth an estimated $36 billion in 2021, Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh told IRINN, Trend reports.

According to him, this will be followed by an increase in the production of petrochemicals by 150 million tons at the next stage.

Zanganeh added that new petrochemical plants have been built in the country in recent years.

“Iran produced petrochemical products worth $20 billion in 2013," he said.

Noting that not all oil can be converted into petrochemicals, the Iranian minister said that less than 10 percent of oil and gas products are converted into petrochemicals, while the rest is used for manufacturing other petroleum products.

"Some 120,000 barrels of gas condensate are supplied daily to the Boali and Nuri petrochemical plants," he said.

Zanganeh noted that the downstream sector currently buys fuel worth $6 billion a year.
