Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 6

By Sara Israfilbayova - Trend:

A special team has been created in London and Baku for an alternative energy project as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by BP Azerbaijan and the country’s Energy Ministry to jointly study the potential for the development of renewable energy, a source in BP Azerbaijan told Trend.

“Active work continues both in BP itself and with specialists of the Energy Ministry who are involved in the project from the Azerbaijani side,” the source noted.

The source added that the work in this direction continues and the company has already submitted a commercial proposal to the Azerbaijani government.

Earlier, BP Azerbaijan Vice President Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli said that BP is interested in doing business in the field of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan. He added that solar energy is of the greatest interest, adding that there is not enough data in the country for now to analyze wind power.

In December 2018, BP and Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore potential opportunities for development of renewable energy in Azerbaijan.

The memorandum envisages the development of a legal framework for the functioning of this sector.
