Indicators of renewables in Azerbaijan revealed

Azerbaijan has potential of 23,040 megawatts of solar and 3,000 megawatts of wind energy, Deputy Head of the Energy Department of Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry Vusal Musayev said during the Caspian Technical Conference in Baku, Trend reports from the event.
“Azerbaijan has great potential in the sector of alternative energy sources and is actively working on the development of this direction,” Musayev said.
The deputy head noted that the total generation capacity for electricity production in Azerbaijan is 7,146 megawatts. A major part of this volume, namely 82.15 percent (5,870 megawatts), accounts for thermal power plants, 15.5 percent (1,109 megawatts) accounts for major hydropower plants, 0.36 percent (24.96 megawatts) for small hydropower plants, 0.92 percent (66 megawatts) for wind power plants, 0.54 percent (0.39 megawatts) for bioelectric power plants and 0.53 percent (37.165 megawatts) for solar power plants, Musayev added.
“By 2020, the total capacity of electricity generation in Azerbaijan will be increased to 7,352 megawatts,” the deputy head said.
The Caspian Technical Conference will continue until Oct. 18. The main focus of the conference is on the oil and gas industry in the Caspian region and at the global level.
The theme of the conference is digital transformation, which is reflected in thematic panel sessions and technical sessions, bringing together industry experts, representatives of regulatory bodies and innovative companies as well as students.
