Azerbaijan discloses volume of electricity exports in 9 months of 2019

The work done to ensure energy security, which is one of the most important elements of Azerbaijan's economic security, has also strengthened the country's position as an electricity exporter, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.

Azerbaijan imported 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours in 2006 to meet the domestic needs, while in 2018 this figure dropped to 131 million kilowatt-hours.

The exports have grown 78 percent over the past decade to 1.4 billion kilowatt hours.

In the first nine months of 2019, 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were exported. For comparison, this figure was 111.5 million kilowatt-hours in the same period of 2018.

Exports grew by 42 percent compared to the same period in 2018. In particular, 859 million kilowatt-hours were exported to Georgia, 120.7 million kilowatt-hours to Russia, 56.5 million kilowatt-hours to Turkey and 28.7 million kilowatt-hours to Iran.

The volume of imports amounted to 74.8 million kilowatt-hours from Russia, 27.4 million kilowatt-hours from Iran and 9.3 million kilowatt-hours from Georgia.
