By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Volume of investments in the electric power industry is increasing in Turkmenistan, Trend reports referring to the Turkmenistan State News Agency Nov. 2.

This issue was raised during the Turkmen government meeting. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan is one of the richest countries in terms of energy resources.

“The Turkmen energy industry is demonstrating a stable high pace of development and is able to increase the export of electricity that is in demand among foreign consumers,” the Turkmen president said.

It was noted that the country is introducing environmentally friendly technologies in this industry, which can reduce fuel consumption and increase electricity production.

The Turkmen president emphasized that Turkmenistan stands for establishing long-term cooperation with leading foreign companies that have proven themselves as reliable partners and which have the latest developments, scientific and production potential.

Turkmen electricity is exported to Afghanistan and Iran. The prospects of deliveries to the markets of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia are also being explored.

The total volume of electricity produced in Turkmenistan by 2024 is planned to be increased to 33 billion kilowatt hours, which exceeds the current figures by almost 30 percent.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has recently allocated $500 million for an electricity project in Turkmenistan. A transmission line for the country will be created within its framework, which will increase the reliability of energy supply to both domestic consumers and neighboring countries importing electricity, including Afghanistan.
