Large-scale repair work has been recently successfully completed at main technological units of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery, Trend reports referring to Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

As a result of continuous teamwork, four units have been overhauled and put into operation.

The units include a device for the primary processing of fuel for diesel and jet engines, catalytic cracking device for obtaining gasoline and liquid gases, a coking device for producing other oil products, and catalytic reforming units.

The repair work was launched at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery on October 4.

The refinery will increase its capacity from six to eight million tons of products per year after the modernization, while its service life will be extended till 2040. The modernization cost is estimated at approximately $2.2 billion.

The process of modernizing the refinery, in addition to the construction of a primary oil refining unit, envisages construction of two units for the production of high-quality diesel fuel and gasoline that meets Euro 5 standard.

After the completion of the modernization, the plant should increase gasoline production to 2.2 million tons from the current 1.2 million tons, diesel fuel to 2.9 million tons from 1.9 million tons, jet fuel to one million tons from 600,000 tons, and petrochemical products to 390,000 tons from 112,000 tons.

The short-term repair and long-term overhaul of oil refineries are a mandatory requirement in the technical passport of each facility to ensure the continuous operation of the refinery and are carried out at the refineries operating worldwide.
