Kazakhstan to create another renewable energy source in co-op with Russia

Solar park the capacity of which will be 100 MW is to be constructed in Kazakhstan’s Akmola region, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the regional akimat (administrative center).

The corresponding agreement has been signed within the framework of the 16th Russia — Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum focusing on Topical Issues Related to the Development of Cross-Border Cooperation, held in Russia’s Omsk city on November 6-7, 2019.

The agreement has been signed by the Head of the Akmola region Yermek Marzhykpayev and CEO of The Hevel Group Igor Shakhray. The implementation of the project is aimed at development of ‘green economy’ and attraction of investments into the region.

The solar park, launch of which is planned for 2020, will allow to increase the volume of renewable energy manufacturing to 40 percent in the region, and decrease volume of CO2 emissions.

Some 83 renewable energy sources (RES) are currently operating in Kazakhstan, including 18 wind parks, 27 solar parks, 35 hydropower plants and three bioelectricity stations. Some 15 objects (405.17 MW) of 83 total plants were put into operation this year.

According to Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin, the country has set a goal to increase capacity of renewable energy in Kazakhstan to no less than 3,000 MW by 2025.

Furthermore, the number of RES objects in Kazakhstan will be 87 objects before the end of 2019. Value of investments into the sector amounted to 406 billion tenge (approximately $1 billion) during nine months of 2019.
