Associated gas utilization volume breaks historical record in Kazakhstan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov.15

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Volume of associated gas utilization by Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas’ group of companies amounted to 93 percent in 2018, which is the highest indicator over the whole history of the company, Trend reports with reference to the Sustainable Development Report of KazMunayGas (KMG) for 2018.

According to the report, the gas burning indicator was six tons per 1,000 tons of hydrocarbons, which is almost 50 percent lower than the world average (12.1) of the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers.

“This became possible due to the installation of a unit for complex gas processing at Prorva group of fields,” the report said.

Thus, the volume of direct greenhouse gas emissions from the flare decreased by 80 percent and amounted to 41,500 tons due to the unit launch. The group of companies is planning to completely stop using associated gas flaring by 2030.

Furthermore, the company is annually constructing new utilization units, implements reconstruction of existing manufacturing, and invests in construction of pipelines and infrastructure.

“For example, commissioning of the unit of gas processing complex at Aktobe region’s Kozhasay field will allow to decrease the associated gas flaring from 173 million cubic meters to 50 million cubic meters,” the report said.

KazMunayGas National Company is the Kazakhstan operator for exploration, production, refining and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the state interests in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan.
