BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia amounted to 890,900 tons from January through October 2019, which is 19,300 tons or 2.1 percent less than in the same period in 2018 (910,200 tons), Trend reports citing Georgian Oil Products Importers Union.

For 10 months of 2019, the largest volume of imports of gasoline and diesel fuel was from Russia – 274,600 tons, or 30.8 percent of total imports.

It is followed by Romania with 243,300 tons (27.3 percent), Azerbaijan – 124,200 tons (13.9 percent), Turkmenistan – 103,700 tons (11.6 percent), Bulgaria – 77,900 tons (8.7 percent), Greece – 49,600 tons (5.6 percent), Turkey – 16,000 tons (1.8 percent) and others.

From January through October 2019, gasoline imports to Georgia amounted to 456,300 tons (an increase of 4,500 tons compared to the same period last year).

In the mentioned period, import of diesel fuel amounted to 434,600 tons, which is 23,800 tons less compared to the same period last year.

According to the statistics on diesel fuel, in October 2019, 58,600 tons of diesel fuel was imported, which is almost 10,000 tons more than in September 2019.

In fact, all the factors that determine the consumption of diesel fuel (fleet, infrastructure work, agricultural laboratories, shipping) are high, and therefore, a high level of import and consumption of diesel fuel should be fixed this year, read the report.

At the same time, import and consumption of gasoline fuels are growing this year, taking into account the recent increase in the number of hybrid cars in the country (currently, about 80,000 hybrid cars operate in Georgia).

The consumption of liquefied gas (LNG) is also increasing, as it is an alternative product of diesel fuel.

Regarding the import of gasoline by category, from January through October 2019, Georgian imported 301,100 tons of A-91 gasoline, 46,300 tons of A-95 gasoline, and 8,900 tons of A-98 gasoline.
