Turkmenistan exports 793.9 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to Afghanistan, Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, Trend reports citing the Turkmen government.

Purchekov was speaking about an increase in the volume of electricity exports to foreign countries.

Electricity is exported via Serhetabat-Herat, Kerki-Andhoy power transmission lines, the Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, noting the importance of taking consistent measures to carry out all the planned work to increase electricity exports, gave the deputy prime minister a number of specific instructions, the report said.

Turkmen electricity is exported to Afghanistan and Iran. The prospects of deliveries to the markets of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia are also being explored.

The total volume of electricity produced in Turkmenistan by 2024 is planned to be increased to 33 billion kilowatt hours, which exceeds the current figures by almost 30 percent.
