BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 4

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Nepal is interested in Georgia’s energy infrastructure, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

The government delegation of Nepal studied current reforms of the energy market and energy infrastructure in Georgia as part of its visit to the country with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

As reported, the first information meeting at the ministry was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Davit Tvalabeishvili and the USAID Mission Director in Georgia Peter Wibler. The Nepalese delegation comprising representatives of the Nepalese energy sector is led by Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Tojanath Adhikar.

“We hope that Georgia's experience will greatly help our Nepalese colleagues in their work, especially, when it comes to the energy market reforms. In Georgia, they should significantly increase the competitiveness of the country's energy sector,” Tvalabeishvili said.

According to the ministry, with the support of the USAID-Funded Nepal Hydropower Development Project, the government of Nepal contacted the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia to give the possibility to the stakeholders in the Nepalese energy sector to pay an educational exchange visit to Georgia.

"Georgia has made remarkable progress in this sector, especially, in terms of the market regulation, over the last decade and in this respect, the Nepalese visitors can learn a lot from Georgians," said Wibler adding that Nepal can also share its experience with Georgian counterparts.

The Nepalese delegation will stay in Georgia until December 7. The issues related to attraction of foreign direct investments in the energy sector, facilitation of cross-border trade and development of the regional electricity market will be discussed at the meetings to be held within the visit.
