BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 5

Trend:

One of the main components of the modernization project at SOCAR’s Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery is the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility on the territory of the plant, consisting of mechanical treatment, biological and sanitary water treatment facilities that meet modern environmental requirements, Trend reports referring to the Azerbaijani State Oil Company SOCAR.

Presently, the preparatory work is underway at the construction site. The manufacturer has been already chosen. Two reserve tanks for rainwater, as well as mechanical and biological ponds are planned to be built.

The sewage will be treated in the facility in accordance with the requirements of international standards.

In accordance with Environmental Impact Assessment of the project, during the operations of new facilities and modernized old equipment installed at the refinery, the directive of the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) on environmental protection, healthcare and labor will be applied for the terminals processing crude oil and oil products, which will have a positive impact on both population’s healthcare and environmental protection.

In accordance with Environmental Impact Assessment of the project, online monitoring system for atmospheric emissions will be created within the project with the aim of constant monitoring by both the refinery and the authorized bodies.

Moreover, the construction of a new flare boom will also minimize the impact of emissions on air and people's health.
