Georgia names HPPs commissioned in 2019

Six hydroelectric power stations (HPPs) with a total capacity of 57.9 megawatts (MW) were commissioned in Georgia in 2019, Trend reports with reference to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

As reported, these are Avani (capacity - 3.5 MW), Skundidi (capacity - 1.33 MW), Aragvi-2 (capacity - 1.95 MW), Ori - (capacity - 1.12 MW), Mestiachala-1 (capacity 20 MW) and Mestiachala-2 (capacity 30 MW) HPPs .

According to the Ministry of Economy, it is planned to launch four more hydroelectric power stations till the end of the year: Chavala, Helra, Ipari and Tbilisi Sea HPP, the total capacity of which is 7.33 MW.

In 2018, only five hydropower plants were commissioned.

In total, the installed capacity of all the HPPs launched in Georgia over two years is 98.3 MW, and $210.7 million were invested in these projects.

According to the data of the Georgian Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO), the country's electricity consumption from January through October 2019 amounted to 10.8 billion kWh.
