Universal Energy company to launch solar energy production in Kazakhstan

Construction of the second solar power plant in the Ili District was launched in Kazakhstan’s Almaty region, Trend reports with reference to KAZAKH INVEST National Company.

The construction was launched by Universal Energy company headquartered in Shanghai in cooperation with Kazakh partners. The solar park will be located on the territory of 140 hectares, the construction cost is around 13.1 billion tenge ($34.6 million). Commissioning of the station is scheduled in 2020.

The project is expected to make significant contribution to fulfilling the region’s energy potential by introducing modern technologies in the field of renewable energy.

This is the second project of Universal Energy in Kazakhstan; earlier, the company launched a 100-MW solar power plant in Kapshagai city. Total cost of the project amounted to 27.7 billion tenge ($73.3 million). Over 300,000 solar panels were installed.

KAZAKH INVEST said that this year, 13 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of about 700 MW are planned to be launched with the support of KAZAKH INVEST. Total investment value will be $856 million.

Universal Energy's activity is focused on solar and wind energy, with offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Almaty. The total capacity of projects implemented by the investment company Universal Energy in conjunction with Kazakhstan's renewable energy partners in Kazakhstan is 380 MW.
