Electricity generation increases in Azerbaijan

Electricity generation in Azerbaijan exceeded 6.9 billion kilowatt-hours in the first quarter of 2020, which is 175.1 million kilowatt hours (2.57 percent) more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the report of the Ministry of Energy.

Over the reporting period, the generation of electricity at thermal power stations (TPS) increased by 257.3 million kilowatt hours compared to the first quarter of 2019, reaching 6.6 billion kilowatt-hours.

According to the report, electricity generation at hydroelectric power stations (HPS) decreased by 83 million kilowatt hours compared to the same period last year, and amounted to 220.5 million kilowatt hours.

The indicator for other energy sources (wind power stations, solar power station and solid waste incinerator) increased by 0.9 million kilowatt hours, reaching 89.7 million kilowatt hours.

Meanwhile, 24.9 million kilowatt hours of electricity were generated at wind power stations, 9.1 million kilowatt hours at solar power stations, and 55.6 million kilowatt hours at a solid waste incinerator.

Electricity generation by Azerenerji OJSC amounted to 6.2 billion kilowatt hours in the first quarter of 2020. Herein, over 6 billion kilowatt hours were generated at thermal power stations, and 195.8 million kilowatt hours – at hydroelectric power stations.

The State Energy Service of Nakhchivan generated 83.6 million kilowatt hours. Meanwhile, 54.7 million kilowatt-hours were generated at TPSs, 21.2 million kilowatt hours - at HPSs, 7.7 million kilowatt hours - at solar power stations, and 588.5 million kilowatt-hours - at independent power plants (IPPs).

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan’s electricity export amounted to 483.2 million kilowatt hours, which is 29.9 million kilowatt hours less compared to the same period of 2019. Meanwhile, electricity import of Azerbaijan decreased by 14 million kilowatt hours, amounting to 27 million kilowatt hours.
