Uzbekistan announces tender for construction of wind power plant

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 15

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

Uzbekistan opens the first tender for the construction of a wind power plant, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

Investors interested in participating in the project to build the first wind power plant in Uzbekistan may submit an application by May 13, 2020.

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Agency for Development of Public-Private Partnership under the Ministry of Finance invite independent private electricity producers to participate in the development, financing, construction, ownership and operation of facilities under this project.

The first tender for the wind energy project will be implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the ultimate goal of which is the construction of wind farms with a total capacity of 1GW.

The tender will be conducted in two stages, including qualification and consideration of technical and commercial proposals.

The site for the construction of the wind power plant has been selected in Karauzyak district of Uzbek Karakalpakstan.

It is planned to build a wind power plant with a total capacity of 200 MW near the site for the first power plant, also via tender.

The project is part of a large-scale strategy for the use of renewable energy sources implemented by the Government of Uzbekistan.

In general, this strategy envisages the deployment of cost-effective and environmentally friendly wind farms with a total capacity of up to 3GW in the next 10 years to meet the growing demand for electricity in the country.
