Russia, Azerbaijan remain only exporters of electricity to Georgia

Electricity imports to Georgia increased by 4.3 percent in March 2020 compared to the same period last year and reached 217.9 million kilowatt-hours, Trend reports citing the Electricity System Commercial Operator of Georgia (ESCO).

As reported, electricity was imported from Russia and Azerbaijan.

According to the Georgian National Statistics Service (Geostat), in the first quarter of 2020, $28.99 million was spent on electricity imports to Georgia, which is 25.7 percent more than in the same period last year. Electricity imports increased by about 40 percent in the first quarter of 2020.

In March 2020, electricity imports to Georgia amounted to $8.17 million, which is 7.5 percent more than in March last year.

Meanwhile, electricity consumption in Georgia decreased by 7.6 percent in March 2020 year-on-year and amounted to 50 million kWh.

In Tbilisi, the energy consumption by Telasi subscribers decreased by 12.2 percent, and among Energo-Pro Georgia subscribers in the regions, electricity consumption decreased by 24 percent.

Reportedly, in February, electricity imports to Georgia increased by 119 percent to 312.03 million kWh year-on-year.

Since 2006, the Electricity System Commercial Operator of Georgia has been providing stability to the Georgian electric power sector, uninterrupted electricity supply to the country and active development of the Georgian energy system. ESCO started its activities in 2006 on the basis of amendments to the Law of Georgia on Electricity and Natural Gas.
