Turkey's EPDK reveals petroleum products' exports by Star Refinery

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The total volume of petroleum products exported by the Star refinery of Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR stood at 131,876 tons in February 2020, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

During the reporting period, diesel accounted for the whole volume of Star refinery's exports, according to EPDK.

This is while in February 2019, Star refinery exported 90.914 tons of diesel, 68,377 tons of fuel oil and 36,464 tons of jet fuel. The refinery's total exports stood at 195,755 tons in February last year.

In February 2020, crude oil imports to Star Refinery amounted to 778,500 tons, the report says.

The opening ceremony of the Star oil refinery took place on October 19, 2018 in Izmir, Turkey.

The total refining capacity of the refinery is 10 million tons. The refinery will significantly reduce the dependence of Turkey on imports of petrochemical products.

Star Refinery has converted its jet fuel production into diesel, as jet fuel consumption has decreased significantly due to flight bans amid COVID-19.

The refinery’s crude oil storage capacity is around 3 million barrels. Currently, SOCAR Turkey is investing in increasing the refinery’s capacity by 1.5 million barrels.
