Former Soviet Union countries increase crude oil exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 14

Total crude oil exports from the Former Soviet Union (FSU) increased by 3.5 percent or 251,000 barrels per day month-on-month in March 2020 to average 7.4 million barrels per day, Trend reports citing OPEC’s Monthly Oil Market Report (MOMR).

Compared to the same month last year, FSU crude exports were 188,000 b/d or 2.6 percent higher.

Crude exports through the Transneft system also edged higher in March, up 77,000 b/d or around 2 percent m-o-m to average 4.3 mb/d. Compared to the same month last year, exports were up 133 tb/d or 3 percent.

Total shipments from the Black Sea increased 162,000 b/d m-o-m, or around 36 percent, to average 612 tb/d in March. Total Baltic Sea exports fell 118 mb/d to 1.4 mb/d, with shipments from Ust-Luga declining 7 percent to 603 tb/d and Primorsk exports down 9 percent or 77 tb/d.

Meanwhile, shipments via the Druzhba pipeline increased 18 tb/d to average 1.0 mb/d. Kozmino shipment rose 13 tb/d m-o-m, or 2 percent, to average 686 tb/d. Exports to China via the ESPO pipeline averaged 607 tb/d in March, broadly unchanged m-o-m.

In the Lukoil system, exports via the Barents Sea edged up 17,000 b/d or 12 percent to 161,000 b/d in March, while those from the Baltic Sea edged down 5,000 b/d.

On other routes, Russia’s Far East exports increased to 408,000 b/d, some 3 percent higher m-o-m and an increase of 4 percent compared to March last year. Central Asia’s total exports averaged 190,000 b/d in March, down 6 percent compared with the previous month and some 17 percent lower y-o-y.

Black Sea total exports increased 292,000 b/d m-o-m to average 1.7 mb/d, with Novorossiyk port terminal (CPC) driving the increase, up 24 percent, while the Supsa port terminal saw a 30 percent decline m-o-m.

FSU total product exports declined 150,000 b/d or more than 4 percent m-o-m to average 3.3 mb/d in March. Declines were seen across all major products, except gasoil which edged higher and VGO which jumped 53 percent. Fuel oil and gasoline led declines. Year-on-year, FSU product exports were 350,000 b/d or 12 percent higher in March.
