Uzbekistan's natural gas production sees serious decline

Natural gas production in Uzbekistan in April 2020 decreased by 24.1 percent, compared to April 2019, and amounted to 4.1 billion cubic meters, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Excluding March figures, April gas production is the lowest since the beginning of 2018.

In March 2020, fuel extraction in Uzbekistan decreased by 9.7 percent compared to the previous month and by 24.9 percent compared to March 2019 to 3.94 billion cubic meters, in February - by 8.2 and 9.2 percent respectively to 4.37 billion cubic meters, in January - by 7.8 and 9.2 percent to 4.76 billion cubic meters.

In total, the country's natural gas production decreased by 15.9 percent to 17.3 billion cubic meters in the period from January through April 2020, compared to the same period last year.

Natural gas production and exploration in Uzbekistan is carried out by enterprises controlled by Uzneftegazdobycha JSC - Russian Lukoil and Gazprom in the form of joint ventures and subsidiaries, Chinese CNPC, French Total, Azerbaijani SOSAR, American Epsilon and a number of other companies.

Proved natural gas reserves in Uzbekistan amount to 1.1 trillion cubic meters, in total - 5 trillion cubic meters. Currently, the capacity of Uzbekistan's oil and gas industry allows producing at least 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

Earlier, the production of natural gas in Uzbekistan decreased by 1.6 perсent to 59.5 billion cubic meters by 2019, while exports - in physical volume by 9.4 per cent to 13.5 billion cubic meters, in value terms - by 6.9 percent to $2.3 billion.
