Georgia revises down forecast for 2020 gas imports

Georgia, which covers its natural gas demand mainly through imports, has revised the forecast for gas imports in 2020 for the third time since the beginning of the year, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

The country now expects to import 2.56 billion cubic meters of gas in 2020, or 1 percent less than April forecasts.

The import of natural gas from Azerbaijan, which is its main supplier to the country, was revised down by 2.4 percent to 2.34 billion cubic meters.

At the same time, it is planned to receive 1.45 billion cubic meters of gas from the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) (4.7 percent less than expected), and 882.7 million cubic meters (1.8 percent more) within the framework of the Shah Deniz project.

Meanwhile, gas imports from Russia, which was previously planned this year in the amount of 171.55 million cubic meters, were increased by 16.6 percent to 200 million cubic meters.

Georgia has made changes to other sources of gas supplies, from where it is expected to get 10.4 million cubic meters (31.6 percent more). The forecast of domestic gas production in Georgia this year has been reduced by 3.3 percent, to 11.6 million cubic meters.

In the updated balance, natural gas consumption in the country in 2020 was reduced by 0.9 percent compared to the previously estimated volume of up to 2.53 billion cubic meters.

Enterprises and organizations in Georgia are expected to supply 869.4 million cubic meters of gas (a decrease of 2.4 percent).

Losses during gas transportation were revised down by 7.9 percent to 31.3 million cubic meters.
