Azerbaijan increases alternative energy production

The power plants of Azerbaijan generated 8.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through April 2020, which is 4.7 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the the State Statistical Committee.

Of the total electricity generated during the indicated period, marketable electricity accounted for 8.3 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 4.81 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.

Over 7.9 billion kilowatt-hours of the total volume of commercial electricity generated during the reporting period accounted thermal power plants (TPPs), which is 6.3 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.

In the first four months of 2020, Azerbaijan’s hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) generated 334 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, showing a decline of 23 percent over the year.

In this period, 33.6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated through wind, which is 1.2 times less compared to the same period, and 12.9 million kilowatt-hours of electricity by photo power stations (PPS), an increase of 41.2 percent.
