Iran looks to expand its co-op with Iraq in power sector

TEHRAN, Iran, June.4

Trend:

Iran plans to continue developing its power cooperation with Iraq, as was pointed out during the visit of Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian to Baghdad, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The development of Tehran-Baghdad cooperation in electricity sector, synchronizing Iranian and Iraqi power network, and development of distributing network were the topics of discussions between Iranian minister and Iraqi officials.

Iraq has more dependency on Iran's electricity export and despite sanctions, the country has requested for extension of sanction wavers.

Baghdad had previously insisted that it still needs Iranian gas supplies to feed its electricity sector, especially in the summer.

The US administration has been automatically renewing every three months the waiver granted to Iraq from the sanctions imposed on Iran two years ago. The last waiver ran out on March 31.
