SOCAR Turkey talks on future expansion of TANAP

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.10

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) will need five more compressor stations for expansion in the future, Trend reports.

“We can increase TANAP’s capacity in the future. In this context, five compressors can be gradually built on the TANAP route with additional investments. We do not share our investment costs until we make a concrete decision on our investments,” SOCAR Turkey told Trend.

“TANAP, which is one of the largest and important projects of Turkey-Azerbaijan cooperation in the energy field, constitutes the most significant part of the Southern Gas Corridor. The total capacity of TANAP is 16 billion cubic meters. Six billion cubic meters will be delivered to the national gas transmission network via two exit points in Eskisehir and Trakya and will be consumed in Turkey.”

Opening ceremony of TANAP's Phase 0 took place in the Turkish province of Eskisehir on June 12, 2018, and commercial gas deliveries to Turkey began in late June 2018.

The opening ceremony of the TANAP-Europe connection was held in Ipsala, Edirne province of Turkey on Nov. 30, 2019.

In this area, near the Greek border, TANAP is connected to the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), through which natural gas from Azerbaijan will be delivered to European countries.
