By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Electricity imports into Georgia in the first half of 2020 increased by 26.5 percent on an annualized basis, despite a decrease in consumption, Trend reports via the Georgian Galt & Taggart investment company.

During the reporting period, electricity was imported from Azerbaijan (52.9 percent of total imports) and Russia (47.1 percent).

Reportedly, 94.6 percent of electricity imports were made in the first quarter of 2020, when the impact of the coronavirus pandemic was not at its peak.

In the first half of 2020, the volume of electricity transiting through Georgia from Azerbaijan to Turkey amounted to 82.2 GWh.

Compared to the same period in 2019, this indicator increased by 3.5 times. However, this is 34 percent less than in 2016.
