Electricity exports down in Georgia

In the first half of 2020, Georgia exported electricity to Turkey (51.8 percent of total exports) and Azerbaijan (9.9 percent ), Trend reports via the Georgian Galt & Taggart investment company.

According to company, the coronavirus pandemic has also affected the export of electricity.

“Due to weak demand in export markets and falling prices, electricity exports in the first half of 2020 fell by 42.7 percent year-on-year. The country started exporting electricity at the end of April,” the report says.

Electricity export revenues in the first half of 2020 amounted to $4.9 million, which is 32 percent less than in the same period last year.

As for imports, during the reporting period, electricity was imported to Georgia from Azerbaijan (52.9 percent of total imports) and Russia (47.1 percent). The total cost of electricity imports amounted to $31 million.
