Kazakhstan’s National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) JSC intends to take an active part in joint efforts on solving the problem of climate change, which poses a threat to the environmental sustainability of the Caspian region, KMG told Trend.
On September 14, 2020, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Baku between KazMunayGas NC JSC, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Limited, Equinor Absheron AS, and TOTAL E&P Absheron B.V.
KMG noted that this initiative will become an excellent platform for dialogue and consultations, as well as an important step in joint actions to achieve environmental objectives in the Caspian region.
“KMG intends to take an active part in joint efforts to resolve the problem of climate change, which poses a threat to the environmental sustainability of the Caspian region, and to prevent emissions of greenhouse gases and harmful substances into the environment. The company also intends to maintain a constructive dialogue with other participating companies and involve stakeholders in the region and regulatory bodies to participate in environmental protection issues,” said the company.
“The company also plans to support advanced methods, standards, and technologies in the field of environmental protection, to provide full support in the issue of public involvement in environmental protection activities, etc,” noted KMG.
Commenting on the current level of transparency of the company's environmental information, KMG said that in its activities KazMunayGas adheres to the principles of transparency and publicity.
KMG has been preparing reports on its activities in sustainable development on an annual basis since 2008, and since 2012, has been publishing reports in line with the GRI Sustainable Development Reporting Standards, the company said.
The Sustainable Development Report discloses indicators of economic, environmental, and social performance, includes information on activities on the most significant aspects for sustainable development.
“The company prioritizes measures to mitigate the impact of its activities on the environment, following the requirements of environmental legislation, rationally using natural resources, and constantly improving environmental activities. KMG's priorities are the careful and rational use of natural resources, minimization of environmental risks,” KMG said.
National Company KazMunayGas is a Kazakhstani operator for exploration, production, processing, and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the interests of the state in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan.
