ACWA International Company for Water and Power Projects in Saudi Arabia has been studying wind potential in areas of future wind farm construction in Uzbeksiatn, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy in Uzbekistan.

To date, ACWA Power has installed 10 meteorological masts out of 18 planned for wind potential research in Peshkui and Gijduvan districts of Bukhara region, where the company will build wind power plants (WPPs) with a total capacity of 1000 MW.

The study of wind potential started in August 2020 and will continue for 12 months.

Special sensors are installed at an altitude of 100 meters in order to measure data such as wind speed, direction and duration, as well as changes in weather conditions. Highly qualified domestic and foreign specialists are involved in this work.

The project using a renewable energy source (wind) will be built 100 percent by attracting direct investment. The total cost of the project amounts to $1 billion.

On May 4, 2020, at a meeting under the leadership of the president of Uzbekistan on improving the energy efficiency of the fuel and energy complex, it was instructed to start a project for the construction of a wind farm on the basis of a public-private partnership in conjunction with ACWA Power.
