Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are working to promote transport and energy projects, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The promotion of projects was discussed during an online meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar.

In particular, the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route was noted.

The implementation of these projects will make an important contribution to the socio-economic development of not only the countries participating in these projects, but also the entire region.

The participants exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues.
Also, during the meeting, the Afghan side noted the important role of Turkmenistan in promoting the peace process in Afghanistan.

Earlier, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a memorandum of understanding on land selection as part of the Afghan part of the TAPI gas pipeline project.

The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI), also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed by the Galkynysh – TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with participation of the Asian Development Bank.
