Kazakhstan’s Samruk-Energy JSC has started developing the feasibility study on the project for reconstruction of Almaty CHP-3, Trend reports citing the company.

The company completed preliminary assessment and analysis of the possibility of transferring CHP-3 from coal to gas in 2019. This work also included consideration of technical conditions for connecting the station to the gas network of Almaty.

At the moment, preliminary research materials were submitted to the Investment and Innovation Council and the Management Board of the company. At the same time, the issues of determining the sources of funding, including whether it will be from budgetary funds and (or) the Samruk-Kazyna's funds, are under discussion.

Starting 2017, Almaty CHP-1 has been completely switched to gas fuel. In 2020, within the framework of a project to minimize environmental impact, a decision was made to modernize and switch Almaty CHP-2 to use gas.
