New solar plant commissioned in Kazakhstan’s Turkestan

A 50 MW solar plant has been commissioned in Kazakhstan’s Turkestan region, Trend reports citing regional akimat (administrative center).

The plant belonging to the YUKSES-50 company takes up 50 ha of land in the industrial part of the Suzak district of the region. The plant is has modern equipment installed and was launched within the framework of the project for the development of environmentally sustainable energy sources.

The project implementation cost is 24 billion tenge ($56.1 million), the capacity is 50 MW, 30 jobs were created.

YUKSES-50 is also currently implementing the project for constriction of the main pipeline and is holding preparations for the heating season.

The project is aimed at the provision of liquefied gas to the residents of the Suzak region and is being funded for the regional budget.

The total capacity of Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sources (RES) will be increased from 1,507 MW to 1,769 MW following the end of 2020.

Earlier this year Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy l said that 13 more facilities with a total capacity of 262.53 MW will be commissioned before the end of 2020 (eight wind power plants - 183 MW; two solar power plants - 14.95 MW; three hydroelectric power plants - 64.58 MW).

The generation of electricity from renewable energy sources in 2020 is projected to reach 3.15 billion kWh or 3 percent of the total electricity production.
