TEHRAN, Iran, Oct.20

Trend:

Iran to launch its free power plan for low consumption households on October 22 that would cover 130,000 users, said the deputy in Electricity Distribution Company in Tehran Province.

"The plan is to divide users in the residential sector into three groups of high, average and low consumers so those who have low power consumption would receive electricity with 100 percent discount, "said Mostafa Babaie, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"While high consuming subscribers should change their consumption style in six months otherwise the electricity bill would increase by 10 percent," he said.

According to him, it has been estimated that around 130,000 users are part of the low consumption group that would be covered in the plan while 645,000 users would also be part of this plan once a year.

"Based on statistics from annual consumption in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) low consumption users would be rewarded with $3.5 million in form of free electricity. The Electricity Distribution Company in Tehran Province is also providing online services to consumers to reduce costs and prevent bureaucracy corruption," he added.

"Our colleagues in the Ministry of Energy are trying to provide online services to users and plans to expand the systems by offering apps," he noted.

Iranian cabinet has approved the plan to provide free electricity to low consuming users on August 23. The so-called Omid power plan is for the residential sector and calculated the low consuming households based on their consumption in previous years.

About 30 percent of power consumers in the country are considered low consumers, 15 percent are high consumers and 55 percent are average

The low power consumption users have consumed up to 80 kilowatts per hour in eight months from October to May and consumed 100 kilowatts per hour in summer, while the average consumption is between 80 to 200 kilowatt per hour and 300 kilowatts per hour in summer.
