Gas exports from Azerbaijan to Turkey down month-on-month

Azerbaijan exported 986 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey in August 2020, as compared to 1.093 billion cubic meters in the previous month, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Markets Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

Turkey's natural gas imports amounted to 3.354 billion cubic meters, or 6.5 percent more than in the same period of 2019.

Approximately 2.762 billion cubic meters was imported via pipelines and approximately 591 million cubic meters accounted for liquefied natural gas (LNG).

During this period, natural gas imports through pipelines increased by 17.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, while LNG imports fell by 26.1 percent.

During this period, Russia took the lead in natural gas exports to Turkey with 1.370 million cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 986 million cubic meters and Iran with 406 million cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in Turkey increased 19.5 percent and stood at 3.58 billion cubic meters. Natural gas consumption in power plants increased by 45 percent to 1.289 billion cubic meters.

Turkey imports gas from Azerbaijan via the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. The countries have inked a contract for the purchase of 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas produced from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas and condensate field.
