Iran’s South Pars Gas Company declares production data for its refinery

A total of 11.4 billion cubic meters of gas was processed at the 2nd refinery of the South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) of Iran and transported to the Iranian gas network during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 20 through October 21, 2020), Director of the 2nd refinery of SPGC Hossein Baghban said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The director stressed that gas processing at the 2nd refinery increased by about 0.6 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

He added that the refinery processes rich gas extracted from 2nd and 3rd phases of the South Pars gas field.

According to Baghban, in addition, the 2nd refinery produced 12.8 million barrels of gas condensate over the reporting period.

The director noted that at the same time about 66,300 tons of sulfur was produced at the refinery within 7 months.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $80 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The South Pars gas field has the potential to produce daily 700 million cubic meters of gas and Iran is currently extracting 630 million cubic meters of gas per day from the gas field.
