Azerbaijan and Iran to build joint hydroelectric power plants

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 23

A final agreement has been reached between Iran and Azerbaijan on the construction of two hydroelectric power plants on the Araz River, Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian told journalists after a government meeting, Trend reports citing, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The minister said that the power generation potential of these stations will be 280-megawatt hours.

Ardakanian added that the financial issues related to the construction of the Khudafarin hydro junction have already been resolved.

“The hydro junction will regulate 1.6 billion cubic meters of water per year and will supply water to 120,000 hectares of land,” he noted.

According to the minister, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a contract on the construction and launch of the Khudafarin and Giz Galasi hydro junctions four years ago.
