Azerbaijan increases electricity production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 18

Over 2.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated in Azerbaijan during January 2021, which is 1.8 percent more compared to January 2020, Trend reports citing the report of the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

Of these, 75 million kilowatt-hours accounted for the production of hydroelectric power plants, which increased by 17.4 percent in annual terms.

At the same time, over 2.06 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced by thermal power plants, which is a 1-percent increase year on year.

During the reporting month, Azerbaijan produced 9 million kilowatt-hours of wind power, while a year earlier this figure was 25 percent less.

In January 2021, the country produced 2 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy, which is 9.1 percent more than in January last year.

According to the committee, in January this year, in the production sector, products and services, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam in Azerbaijan, amounted to 191.1 million manat ($112.4 million), showing a growth of 1.3 percent over the year.
