The Fath 33 drilling rig is being relocated to the Golestan Province (northeastern Iran) on the drilling of the Hirkan gas well in this province, Deputy Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), Alireza Layeji said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The deputy director noted that the drilling of the Hirkan gas well for gas exploration is expected to be launched by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2021).

Layeji added that the NIDC is implementing two projects of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) on the drilling of 8 + 6 oil and gas exploration wells. So far, 6 wells have been drilled under these projects and 3 wells are being drilled.

“Work is underway for the launch of 4 wells within the project,” he said.

The Fath 33 drilling rig of Iran was handed over to the National Iranian Drilling Company in 2011. So far, 22 explorations, development, and delineation wells with a total depth of 64,800 meters have been drilled in Iran via the drilling rig.

Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
