Kazakhstan discloses target volume of electricity generation for 2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar.5

Trend:

Kazakhstan generated 108 billion kWh of electricity with consumption at the level of 107.3 billion in 2020, fully meeting the country's demand for electric power, Head of Energy Ministry Nurlan Nogayev said during the ministry's expanded board meeting, Trend reports citing a source in the ministry.

According to Nogayev, the volume of investments attracted within the capacity market in the electric power generation sector last year amounted to more than 82 billion tenge ($190 million).

At the expense of the country’s budget, last year 24 projects were implemented for the amount of 31.4 billion tenge ($74 million), of which 6 projects (amounting to 3.6 billion tenge or $8.5 million) were completed.

“The implementation of 6 projects allowed provision of about 120,000 people with a reliable and continuous power supply, as well as 18,100 people and 10 social facilities - with heating. Tax revenues to the budget exceeded 5 billion tenge ($12 million),” the minister explained.

During the construction, 902 jobs, including 184 permanent ones were opened.

In order to increase investments in the industry, the ministry raised the maximum permissible limit from 10 billion tenge ($24 billion) to 30 billion tenge ($71 billion) per year for the modernization, reconstruction and renovation of power plants.

It’s planned to generate 109 billion kWh of electrical energy. Also, the ministry will continue to work to stimulate the construction of maneuverable facilities and the implementation of the hydropower development plan.

Along with the foregoing, the Ministry of Energy developed and approved a plan for the placement of generating plants with a flexible generation mode with the definition of a zone, type of power plant, the required volumes of flexible capacities in the zone of the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan.

According to the plan, perspective sites for the construction of maneuverable facilities have been identified, and at the end of 2021, it’s expected to hold an auction to select investment projects.

“The development of flexible capacities is a prerequisite for ensuring the country's energy security, given the growing consumption of electricity and the share of alternative and renewable types of energy in the energy balance,” stressed the minister.
