Iran's NISOC begins excavations on its territory

The drilling of the first well was launched within a plan to maintain and increase extraction from the 2nd and 5th oil reservoirs of the Marun oil field in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), manager of the plan of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) on the development of 2nd and 5th reservoirs of the Marun oil field, Hossein Rahimi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

Rahimi stressed that the excavations were launched with the 'Fath 68' drilling rig of the NIDC. In addition, two more rigs are planned to be located in this field.

The executor of Iranian E&P Negin Afagh Kish Energy Development Co. (TENCO) plan on the development of the 2nd and 5th reservoirs Hossein Badavi said that 14 wells would be drilled in the field, under the plan. Five of these wells will be development wells, 9 – repair wells and will be handed over to the NISOC within 24 months.

The NISOC and Iran's Tenco Company have signed a contract worth 73 million euro on maintain and development of extraction from the 2nd and 5th oil reservoirs of the Marun oil field.

Iran's Marun oil field is located in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran). The Marun field, which is considered Iran's third-largest oil field, contains 46 billion barrels of crude. Its 22 billion barrels can be extracted. About 400,000 barrels of crude oil are currently extracted from this field.
