BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar. 16

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is conducting a comprehensive analysis of planned development of renewable energy in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the press service of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan.

According to the information, Uzbekistan's plans for clean energy are aimed at increasing the share of renewable energy sources to 25 percent in the structure of energy consumption by 2030. Within 10 years, the government plans to commission 5,000 megawatts (MW) of new solar energy capacity and 3,000 megawatts of wind power.

Thus, USAID, in partnership with the Government of Uzbekistan, is conducting a comprehensive analysis of the impact of planned renewable energy development in the country. The study is being carried out by a working group with the participation of key stakeholders in the energy sector, including the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Innovative Development, the National Power Grids of Uzbekistan and ‘Energy’ Regional Coordination and Dispatch Center.

It is noted that new computers and simulation software provided by USAID will enable the working group to efficiently simulate power systems, connect with international experts, and participate in online seminars.

To date, the USAID Future Energy Program has provided Uzbekistan and partners involved in renewable energy impact research with extensive technical assistance and training. Since May 2020, more than 125 virtual working sessions have been held.

Furthermore, on March 15, 2021 representatives of the USAID took part in the opening of a modern communication center at the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan.

“This state-of-the-art communications hub supports the important work being done by our Uzbek and regional partners to modernize the energy sector and achieve the country's ambitious clean energy goals, and will strengthen the partnership between the US government and Uzbekistan to improve the country's energy security,” Director of the Bureau of Economic Development under the USAID Mission in Uzbekistan Scott Hedlund said.
