Oil transit via Georgia down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Oil transit via Georgia has decreased in February 2021, year-on-year, Trend reports via Georgian media.

In total 2.2 million tons of oil was transported through two pipelines in February that is 0.7 million tons less compared to January 2021.

A total of 5.1 million tons of oil was pumped through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP) from January through February.

As reported, in 2020 the oil transit via Georgia amounted to 31.8 million tons.

Meanwhile, prices for petroleum products have increased in Georgia since the beginning of 2021 through March.

Thus, gasoline and diesel fuel have risen in price by an average of 30-35 tetri (9-10 cents) over the reporting period.

"Fuel prices have been growing since last year. From the beginning of June, international prices for Platts began to rise and fuel prices began to rise. But since this year, the rise in prices has become more tangible for consumers. Because the prices today are practically the same as before the coronavirus pandemic. This year, fuel in Georgia has risen in price at branded gas stations by 35-40 tetri (10-11 cents). We expect that the process of rising prices will continue in the near future," said the Chairman of the Georgian Union of Petroleum Products Importers Vano Mtvralashvili.
