SOCAR’s STAR Refinery reduces oil imports y-o-y

The STAR oil refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey imported 695,749 tons of crude oil in January 2021 as compared to 882,195 tons in the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

STAR Refinery’s exports stood at 64,702 tons in January 2021, compared to 92,842 tons in January 2020.

The EPDK report shows that STAR refinery produced 492,600 tons of diesel 8,734 tons jet fuel and 2.737 tons of marine fuel. In addition, during this period, the refinery produced 104,343 tons of intermediate products, 56,818 tons of other products, 108,331 tons of heavy vacuum gas oil, 16,504 tons of LPG, 142,160 tons of naphtha, 56,279 tons of petroleum coke and 20,132 tons of refinery gas (non-liquid).

Star Refinery, with investment value of $6.3 billion came on stream in October 2018. Around $3.3 billion of the project’s cost was covered by loans. The total investment in Star Refinery is expected to stand at $7 billion.

The annual processing capacity of Star Refinery is 10 million tons. It meets around 25 percent of Turkey’s refined oil products. The refinery is able to process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
