Georgia reveals rating of largest direct consumers of electricity

The Georgian Manganese company consumed the most electricity among Georgian companies in the first quarter of 2021, Trend reports via the Georgian Energy Market Operator (ESCO).

According to ESCO, BFDC, or Bitfury Georgia, was the second largest consumer of electricity. In 2020, the company consumed 131 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, and in 2019 - 534 million kilowatt-hours.

As for the general data, in the first quarter of 2021, electricity consumption in Georgia increased by 3.3 percent and amounted to 3.47 billion kilowatt-hours.

Rating of the largest direct consumers of electricity (Top-10) in 1Q2021. The list also includes cryptocurrency mining companies.

1. Georgian manganese - 279 million kWh;
2. BFDC (Bitfury Georgia) - 85.7 million kWh;
3. Rustavi Azot - 66.1 million kWh;
4. Rustavi Steel - 44.1 million kWh;
5. Georgian Water & Power - 43.2 million kWh;
6. Heidelberg Cement Georgia - 37.2 million kWh;
7. Chiaturmanganum Georgia - 35.2 million kWh;
8. Geostile - 24 million kWh;
9. GTM Group - 23.3 million kWh;
10. RMG Copper - 19.5 million kWh;

Most private companies in Georgia get their electricity from Telasi or Energo-Georgia networks. However, 19 large companies have the status of "direct consumers" and receive electricity bypassing Telasi and Energo Pro.
