TAP sees higher nominations from shippers at Kipoi interconnection point

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

As of 17 April, the level of nominations at the Kipoi interconnection point of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) increased to over 20 MNm3/day, TAP’s commercial team told Trend.

This increase in flow is due to higher nominations from the shippers, said the source.

“By the end of March 2021, more than 1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas from Azerbaijan entered the TAP transportation system via the Greek interconnection point of Kipoi, where TAP connects to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP),” said TAP’s commercial team.

As a transmission system operator, TAP is not involved in the gas sales, and can therefore not advise on the supply breakdown once the gas exits our infrastructure system (i.e., whether gas delivered to Greece was transported further to Bulgaria).

As the European section of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a.

As a key part of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP is strategically and economically important to Europe and essential in providing reliable access to a new source of natural gas. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.

TAP’s shareholding is comprised of bp (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam (20%), Fluxys (19%), Enagás (16%) and Axpo (5%).
