Power units of a new type at the Turakurgan thermal power plant (TPP), located in the Namangan region of Uzbekistan, will make it possible to receive twice as much electricity per unit of fuel consumed as compared to traditional thermal power plants, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan told Trend.
Based on the decree of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev dated December 30, 2016, on additional measures for the implementation of the investment project ‘Construction of the Turakurgan thermal power plant’, the project for the construction of two combined cycle gas turbines with a capacity of 450 MW has been successfully completed this year.
According to the ministry, as a result of reaching the full capacity of the second combined cycle plant in 2020, the Turakurgan TPP is currently carrying out its work in full.
In addition, it is reported that the installed capacity of the station amounts to 900 MW, while the annual volume of generated electricity accounts for 6.7 billion kWh. The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.2 billion.
The ministry also noted that the energy produced by the Turakurgan TPP is cheaper in cost than the energy generated by other similar stations.
"Power units of the new type will allow receiving twice as much electricity per unit of fuel consumed as compared to traditional thermal power plants," the ministry said.
Furthermore, during the implementation of the project for the construction of the Turakurgan TPP, $27.3 million was saved. It is reported that Turakurgan TPP – Yulduz, a high-voltage transmission line, stretching from the Turakurgan district of the Namangan region to the city of Andijan, was built and commissioned for this amount.
The ministry said that within the framework of the project, 347 metal supports of the overhead line were installed, the installation of power transmission cables 100 kilometers long was carried out, and installation and commissioning work was carried out at the Yulduz substation.
