Kazakhstan president proposes to operate solar panels to develop 'smart cities'

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev has proposed to implement pilot projects for the operation of solar panels and the micro plants in the framework of the development of 'smart' cities, Trend reports citing the press service of the Kazakh president.

Tokayev made the remark during a meeting on the development of the electric power industry.

The president noted the need to stimulate the use of renewable energy sources among the population.

“I am a solid supporter of the development of pure energy and in general, ‘green’ technologies. I support the construction of power plants using renewable energy sources,” Tokayev stressed.

“I agree with the opinion of experts who believe that the nuclear power industry should be finally represented prematurely and mistakenly,” Kazakhstan’s president said.

“The entire developed world relies on atomic energy. Phobias are inappropriate here. But it is necessary to carry out persistent explanatory work among citizens. We will not hurry with the construction of nuclear power plants, but it should not be too late either,” Tokayev stressed.
