Azerbaijan’s refinery throughput dropped by 5.4 percent in 2020 year-on-year from 124,000 barrels a day to 118,000 barrels a day, Trend reports referring to bp’s Statistical Review of World Energy 2021.

The country saw a 0.3 percent increase in refinery throughput from 2009 through 2019, shows the bp report.

As for the previous years, the refinery throughput was 124,000 barrels a day in 2010, 127,000 barrels a day in 2011, 124,000 barrels a day in 2012, 132,000 barrels a day in 2013, 135,000 barrels a day in 2014, 130,000 barrels a day in 2015, 120,000 barrels a day in 2016, 118,000 barrels a day in 2017 and 122,000 barrels a day in 2018.

The country’s refining capacity, however, remained unchanged from 2019 standing at 120,000 barrels daily. Between 2010 and 2015 Azerbaijan saw a stable 325,000 barrels per day of refining capacity, which subsequently fell to 205,000 barrels per day in 2016 and then stabilized at 120,000 barrels daily.

bp estimates that the total world refinery throughput fell from 82.954 million barrels in 2019 to 75.512 million tons in 2020, a 9 percent decrease year-on-year. The OECD leads in terms of reduction of refinery throughput with 13.1 percent decrease year-on-year, leaving behind the European Union with 12.4 percent and non-OECD with 5.4 percent decrease.
