SOCAR’s methanol plant undergoes overhaul, reaches 100% capacity

The methanol plant of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, the sole facility of its kind in the Caucasus, has reached 100 percent capacity after the overhaul, Trend reports with reference to SOCAR.

The plant, commissioned in 2013, underwent major overhaul from January through April 2021, after which it started production on May 2. The facility reached the full capacity of 1,700 tons per day, producing 47,000 tons in May and 51,000 tons in June. The annual production capacity is 561,000 tons, while its output stood at 383,000 tons in 2019 and 476,000 tons in 2020.

The facility produces A brand methanol or methyl alcohol with 99.99 percent purity. The product has the Certificate of Conformity (ГОСТ 2222-95) and REACH Certificate of Compliance, a document certifying that a product is compliant with the EU REACH regulation (EC) No 1907/2006.

The major part of the product is exported. The plant sold 400,000 tons in 2019 and 479,000 tons in 2020, of which 391,000 tons and 469,000 tons respectively went abroad, primarily Turkey, Romania, Italy, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Israel, Brazil, Argentina, Ukraine, Egypt, Greece, Bulgaria, China, Kazakhstan, Spain and France.
