Electricity generation from natural gas drops globally

Electricity generation from natural gas has dropped from 6323.8 terawatt-hours in 2019 to 6268.1 terawatt-hours in 2020, Trend reports with reference to bp.

Coal still accounts for the lion’s share of global electricity generation, since 9421.4 terawatt-hours of the total 26823.2 terawatt-hours of electricity was produced from coal in 2020, as compared to 9826.2 of 27001.0 terawatt-hours in 2019.

Natural gas comes in second for the volume of electricity production globally.

The world electricity generation from other types of fuel in 2020 is as follows: 758.0 terawatt-hours from oil, 2700.1 terawatt-hours from nuclear energy, 4296.8 terawatt-hours from hydropower, 3147.0 terawatt-hours from renewables and 231.8 terawatt-hours from other fuels. The total electricity production fell from 27001.0 terawatt-hours in 2019 to 26823.2 terawatt-hours in 2020. Non-OECD accounted for 15942.4 terawatt-hours of this volume, while OECD and EU generated 10880.8 terawatt-hours and 2770.6 terawatt-hours, respectively.

The world electricity generation in the previous years is as follows: 21570.7 terawatt-hours in 2010, 22257.0 terawatt-hours in 2011, 22806.3 terawatt-hours in 2012, 23435.2 terawatt-hours in 2013, 24031.7 terawatt-hours in 2014, 24270.5 terawatt-hours in 2015, 24915.2 terawatt-hours in 2016 25623.9 terawatt-hours in 2017 and 26659.1 terawatt-hours in 2018.
